Most visitors to Hungary see only Budapest. There is much more of great beauty and interest - the wooded hills and river valleys of north-eastern Hungary - Lake Balaton, historic towns such as Eger, Györ, Pecs, Sopron, Debrecen. The four part Hungary Tour has introduced them to you. But on those pages we only had space for a few pictures, now you can see some more photographs to arouse your interest further, so that you have more reason to plan a holiday in the lovely country of the Magyars. | We visited Eger earlier. Here is a view of the town from the ramparts of the castle, with the Minorite church on the left, and the Basilica in the distance.
The second picture shows the peaceful town of Tokay. |

Pécs is a fascinating city because of the brilliant examples of many styles. On the left is another detail of a combination of Moslem and Christian art in the Belvarosi Templom (Inner City Church).
Recent discoveries of 4th century early-Christian burial chambers, nect to the cathedral, are an important reason to visit Pécs. On the right you see a fragment of one of the crypts. |

The four towers of the 12th century Pécs Cathedral are visible from far away. Its elaborately decorated interior is the finest in Hungary. On the right you see a portion of the ceiling of the main nave. |

On the left is the richly decorated tomb of a Hungarian prince in one of the side aisles of the cathedral. There are many more like it.
On the right is the Zsolnay Fountain>, coated with a patented glaze manufactured by the famous Zsolnay porcelain factory. |

The main altar is an excellent example of Baroque style. Below the church you may visit earlier parts that date back to the 4th century, at the end of the Roman era |

The Esterházy Palace near Fertöd, close to the Austrian border, was built in the 18th. century to rival the palaces of the Habsburg royal family.
Szombathely was called Samaria when it was a Roman frontier town. This is the tiled floor of a Roman villa from the 3rd century. |
