Flowers flourish year round in coastal California with its mild climate, this picture was taken on trail in Palos Verdes Estates. However, usually in the summer morning fog eliminates the views. This year, 3rd week of June, we had perfect weather on coastal highway #1 from Carmel to San Luis Obispo

These elephant seals are cavorting on the sandy beach near San Simeon. Just south of Carmel in the Point Lobos state park we saw cormorants nesting on Bird Rock.

In Oakland it's hard to believe that at the eastern edge of the city you are on a mountain ridge in the middle of a nature reserve. On the way down you have a magnificent view of downtown Oakland, San Francisco is seen on the other side of the bay, the Bay Bridge in the middle of the picture.

At the southern end of California, the square-rigger "Star of India" is a permanent attraction of San Diego's waterfront. It has been beautifully restored to its original glory by the dedicated effort of local marine buffs. A modern cruise ship offers luxurious comfort that was unheard of in the days when sail ruled the oceans.
