All family members, colleagues and friends were profoundly shocked by the news of the sudden death of
Commander Alexander Charles "Alex" Tanski on May 12, 2007. He was in Fort Worth, Texas, performing service in the Naval Reserve, where he suddenly became ill, was taken to the hospital and died within a few hours. The funeral took place in Union City, where he lived with his family and worked as a manager at the Kohler Company. On June 1 he was interred in the Columbarium at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Alex was born May 23, 1961, in Bensonhurst in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved with his family to Rockaway, N.J., in 1969. He was the son of Charles Zbigniew Tanski of Rockaway and the late Mary J. (Majdanska) Tanski and had one younger sister Anna Marie. He graduated from Morris Hills High School, Rockaway NJ, in 1979. He was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis 25 May 1983 with a B.S. degree in systems engineering. Then he actively served in the U.S. Navy until 1995 and continued serving in the U.S. Active Naval Reserve until his death. He was named the 1991 San Francisco Bay Area Federal Employee of the Year. He was a member of the Naval Reserve Association and a lifetime member of the U.S. Naval Institute.
Alex wil be remembered with fondness by all his family, colleagues and friends. He was a loving father, a dedicated naval officer and devoted himself to excellent performance in his every undertaking.
