Three brothers on a hockey team in the same year is rare. The 2009/2010 season of the Harvard Crimson is one of those years. The team captain Alex Biega has two younger brothers in his team - Mike and Danny. Alex is a senior and has been on the team for three years, Mike is a junior, Danny a freshman. Born and raised in Pointe-Claire, Quebec they all played hockey since kindergarten, together in Lac St.Louis Lions in Quebec, later on the varsity hockey team at the Salisbury Prep school in Connecticut, now once more together at Harvard. Alex and Danny both play defense, Michael offence.

     Alex, #3, a senior and team captain in 2009-2010. He came to Harvard after leading Salisbury to its first New England hockey championship in 2006, as captain and earned the Most Valuable Player award. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, but chose to go to Harvard.
In his freshman year he led Eastern College Athletic Conference hockey league freshman defensemen with 18 points and scored six goals. In his sophomore year he led Crimson defensemen in scoring with three goals and 19 assists. As a Junior he was awarded the John Tudor Memorial Cup as the Crimson's most valuable player, and was selected to the New England All-Star team.

     Michael, #27, a junior, came to Harvard from Salisbury after and playing for three years on the varsity hockey team and being named school's Athlete of the year. In his freshman year at Harvard he scored nine goals and was co-recipient of the Percy Award as Harvard's top rookie. He followed up with six goals and 11 assists in his sophomore year. At Salisbury he also participated in soccer and rowing.

     Danny, #9, freshman, came to Harvard after captaining Salisbury to a New England prep title in 2009, his second year on the team. The Salisbury Knights accomplished this feat even though they had no rink of their own and all games were played away. The New England Hockey Journal gave much of the credit for this success to Danny.

Meanwhile, youngest brother, Marc, age 15, back home plays defense as #4 for the Lac St.Louis Lions in the Québec Midget AAA Hockey League, with an impressive goal scoring record. He is now a Sophomore at Kuper Academy, West Island (Montreal), Quebec.
Alex relates that the family often played hockey together, he and Marc against Danny and Michael.

Their father, Peter Biega travels from Montreal, whenever he can, to attend the Harvard ice-hockey games. It is certain that his grandfather Petro, who was born in 1900 in a small village 44km (25 miles) south of Lwów (today Lviv), never dreamed that his great-grandsons would be students and hockey stars at America's prestigous university!
